40 weeks

Yesterday was my estimated date of delivery (EDD) and no baby. Only 5% of babies are born on their due date so I guess I shouldn't be too surprised :)

I have been walking and staying upright, trying to let gravity do some work for us.

Our realtor said that there is a couple that wants to see the house. I am hoping that they come view the house soon, tonight would be great. It will be much easier to show without a newborn baby to make all kinds of messes and smells :)

We have been working in the yard a lot. Mitchell has trimmed up the bushes and mowed the grass and weeded the flower beds and path ways. I did some weeding and planted some plants.

The Nursery is Done!!!!

Mitchell finished the dresser and we put all the drawers back in it yesterday! So now I can officially say that the nursery is finished!

The dresser is painted Valspar "soft pastel" which is a super light pink that I love because it comes off as a warm white. To the right is our diaper pail which is from Ikea. The Planet Wise pail liners fit perfectly in them. To the left is our wonderful Maclaren bouncer that has NO CARTOON CHARACTERS!!!! Hooray!

Above the dresser I wanted some art but, since we are moving back to Texas soon I didn't want to put many holes in the wall. I hung up some ribbon from two nails and then added some hoop art and hanging it all with clothes pins. The giraffe painting is from Uganda and the monogram was made by my lovely friend Lauren Wolcott (it was what she wrapped baby's shower gift in)

In the corner under the windows sits the glider! It is super comfy and a wonderful hand-me-down from my Aunt Lisa. I bought the ottoman a couple of years ago at TJMaxx. The side table is a stump that I made Mitchell pull over to get and the lamp is my childhood Peter Rabbit, Beatrix Potter lamp.

The next corner houses my lovely Jenny Lind crib. I bought it a while back on craigslist. I paid $80 for the crib, mattress, three crib sheets, and bed skirt that was used for barely a year. The woman was moving to Switzerland and had to sell everything quickly! Adelaide's finished quilt is over the front. Above her crib hangs a mobile that Mitch and I brought back from Africa. I covered a cardboard "A" in fabric and hung it above the head of her bed.

Her closet is now ready and organized for her arrival.

Her collection of dresses. Many are handmade, a handful are vintage and one is straight off the shelves.

Her bows and hair accessories. She has more bows that are in Texas. I figured she won't have too much hair before we move back to the Lone Star State.

These are her diapers that aren't newborn suitable. Once she starts fitting into these they will move back into the diaper drawer :) Below those are blankets, quilts, a baby carrier and my nursing cover.

And here are two of Adelaide's biggest fans. They are always with me when I am in her room because of how much they love her (actually I think it is because it is the only room with carpet)

Mitch's b-day is today. I was hoping baby would come today but I would have to have a super speedy labor that started right now for that to even be a possibility. :)

39+1=40

I am now 39 weeks, less than a week from my due date!

Our house is having some cracking/flaking bricks replaced. The work started this morning at 7. It is loud and dusty. I am glad little Miss Adelaide has a sound buffer :)

The weather has been absolutely amazing and wonderful. My windows have been open all week (except for today because of the before mentioned "loud and dusty"-ness of it all)

Theo got a hair cut yesterday and is ready for spring and summer! He went to the park on Sunday and again on Tuesday. He was so excited to be out and about in the sunshine.

This little lady had been seeming to want to come early but she has settled down and now seems to be in protest. Adelaide, listen to me, "occupy womb" will not be tolerated too much longer! It is so much better out here in the world! You have a puppy that wants to meet you and a daddy that wants to hold you and oodles of grandparents and great-grandparents that want to give you kisses!

READY!!!!

I will be 39 weeks tomorrow! Just a mere week from my estimated date of delivery. Which, cute as can be, is on the first day of spring.

This little lady has a mind of her own and is making sure that I take note of it. This morning, I, once again, woke up with contractions that stopped after an hour or so. :)

Yesterday I finished up all my sewing. I made a dress, a skirt, and two head bands. She is going to look so cute!

Pink and green. I think it kind of looks like a Lily Pulitzer dress. That wasn't what I was going for but it turned out super cute (and yes, I do acknowledge that I need to get some baby hangers)

I made this headband flower. Mitch has really been wanting to make sure that Adelaide has enough accessories so I made this to appease him :) Some little lady already has her daddy wrapped around her finger and she's not even HERE yet!

Also, some people were confused by what I meant when I say "Her co-sleeper is set up" This is the Arm's Reach Co-sleeper. I like to think of it like a side car for a motorcycle. It attaches to the side of the bed and is anchored under the mattress. The fourth side can raise up to make it a stand alone bassinet. Todd and Mr. Wilson gifted us this lovely, and ever so useful gizmo! Every night I just imagine her in there. Not too much longer. :)

I just finished weeding the flower beds in the front. My tulip bulbs are starting to come up :) I am excited to see them bloom. I planted some purple bulbs and some white bulbs! They should coordinate lovely with the thyme, once it starts blooming.

(I took some pics of the quilt and of her closet but somehow between uploading them and trying to get them into blogger the images got corrupted so look for those in a later post. I also need to take some pics of the car organizer that I made. It is the same cow print as the skirt and has hot pink contrast stitching)

Waiting

I was trying to relate what I am feeling as we anxiously await the arrival of our daughter. She keeps tricking us! On Sunday I woke up "in labor" but it stopped and then the same thing on Monday. I guess she has her own schedule and wants to keep us on our toes.

The closest that I can come to describing this is for me to tell you about another day.

On October 15, 2005 I was getting ready for the homecoming dance at TAMS. I had been ready for a while, really it doesn't take that long to do your hair and put on make-up and I had started way too early. For the last half hour before my date came I sat in my dorm room with butterflies in my stomach. Everything was ready to go, the room was clean, my purse was packed with the essentials and every hair was in place. All I could do was wait and wait. After a little bit I heard some noise coming down the hall so I looked out. Mackenzie was walking Mitchell to my room. At this point my heart was racing.

I know that sounds kind of silly. I had gone to plenty of dances and I had known Mitch for a while, as a friend. We had volunteered together and hung out a little. Little did I know, that that dance and that date would end up starting a whole new chapter in my life; the chapter in which I fell in love with my husband. Needless to say, that chapter started many others. Including the one that is about to open: Parenthood.

I sit around the house excitedly waiting for Adelaide to arrive. Her bags are packed and all of her clothes are pre-washed and folded. Her quilt is made. Her dresses are hanging in her closet. Her car seat is installed and her bed is set up. The house is clean and meals for after her arrival are in the freezer with directions written on them (in case Mitch has to prepare them) I know that this moment is big. I know that this moment is precious. I know that this moment will pass all too quickly.

I have the best hubby!

Mitch has been busy doing "handy-man" things around the house. As most of you know, those types of things aren't his favorite, but he is gladly doing it for his soon arriving princess :)

He installed our diaper sprayer, installed new tub drain, and is sanding down baby girl's dresser to be painted pale pink!

We are now just waiting for Adelaide Lillian to get here :)

It is March! That means BABY MONTH!

On Saturday Mitchell and I went to the ECE Winter Banquet. It was a lovely evening. As you can see, I have a super handsome husband. :) While at the banquet I had one really strong contraction but it was just one.

On Monday night I had another strong one, but again, just one. Tuesday night I woke up for about 30 minutes of mild contractions but they went away.

I am getting so excited. She could be here anytime now. As of yesterday I was cleared for birth at the Midwife Center! Plus, I tested negative for group B strep, meaning that after she is born we get to come home in just 4-6 hours! Yay!

In preparation for Adelaide's arrival I have packed her bag (not mine yet, just hers.)

What I packed for Adelaide Lillian:

8 newborn diapers

small wet bag (I'm going to put the larger one in my bag)

super soft flannel wipes

One long sleeve NB shirt

One short sleeve NB shirt

2 pairs of mittens

One pair of socks

One soft pink gown

4 hats (2 plain, one knit, and one embroidered with her name :) )

2 swaddling blankets

lanolin nursing cream

going home outfit (including the dress and slip that I wore home, a knit bonnet, and knit booties)

A list of phone numbers to call right after and a place to put weight/length/time etc. (it is only immediate family, if that is not you expect to hear second or third hand :) )
